  • 2 cups fresh unsweetened apple cider
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper. Sear until browned on all sides (about 3 minutes per side). Remove from pot.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot; sauté until fragrant (about 2 minutes). Return the pork to the pot.
  4. Pour in apple cider and chicken broth until submerged halfway. Add the cinnamon stick and thyme sprigs.
  5. Cover tightly and braise in the oven for about 4 hours or until fork-tender.
  6. Serve with sauce drizzled on top, alongside mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
