Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 slices American or Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices marbled rye bread
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp chopped pickles
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Instructions

  2. In a skillet over medium heat, drizzle olive oil and sauté sliced onions until golden brown, about 8 minutes.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high and cook patties for about 4 minutes on each side or until desired doneness is reached.
  4. During the last minute of cooking, place cheese slices on top of patties; cover skillet to melt the cheese.

  6. Toast sandwiches in the same skillet until golden brown on both sides (about 3 minutes each). Serve warm.

Keywords: For enhanced flavor, use day-old bread for better toasting. You can substitute beef with turkey or veggie patties for a lighter meal. Experiment with different cheeses like gouda or pepper jack, and add toppings such as jalapeños for an extra kick.
