How to Make Soft Dinner Rolls
In a bowl, whisk together warm milk and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Whisk in the melted butter, remaining sugar, and salt. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, stirring until the mixture comes together into a dough.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead by hand for 10-12 minutes, until it feels sticky but not overly wet.
Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise for about 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the risen dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Divide into 15-24 pieces, shape each into a ball, and arrange in a greased baking dish.
Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-60 minutes until they puff up.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 23-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and aromatic.
Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with kosher salt immediately after baking.
