Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (500g)
  • 1 ½ cups lukewarm water (360ml)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast (7g)
  • 2 tsp salt (10g)
  • 1 tsp sugar (4g)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt on one side and yeast and sugar on the other. Pour lukewarm water into the center and mix until combined.
  2. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook.
  3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Punch down the dough gently, divide it into two pieces, and shape each into long baguettes.
  5. Place shaped baguettes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover again, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Make diagonal cuts on top of each baguette before baking for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
